Surviving Holiday Blues

Written by Joe White. Posted in Transformation.

Winter BluesThere is something that we all experience in our lives. No one is exempt.

For some it is sooner rather than later, for others it comes as a shock. Some experience it in great waves and others seem more surprised that is it is happening to them. Regardless of your gender, color or ethnicity, we all experience it. It is a part of life.
Whether your faith is grounded in religion, in the universe, mother earth, a higher power, in the process itself or in yourself. Faith is the antidote to fear.
We all experience life's dark moments. It could be a loss of a love one, a health diagnosis, being told you no longer have a job or that your business is out of money. It is in those moments that it feels like someone has kicked you in the gut. We lose the feeling of certainty and security and we end up asking ourselves, "Why is this happening to me?"

In my 15 years of working with individuals I have coached people from everything imaginable. I have coached people who were depressed, getting a divorce, change in career, dealing with an empty nest, and trying to find a purpose in life. One of the reasons more than anything else that causes a person to feel as if their life is spinning out of control is when life suddenly takes a sharp and unexpected turn. As we move into the holiday season which seems to amplify what you are experiencing and what you are feeling; I wanted to offer you some tools and guidance to help to lighten your load.

I know from firsthand experiences, there seems to be no end in sight. No light at the end of the tunnel. The first tool I would like to share is the tool of HOPE. Hope is that spark of light that changes the darkness. It may not bring you all that you desire, but it is a step towards peace. Our brains are wired to not handle situations in that which we feel pain is never going to end. The first step is to see or believe that a solution is possible. The key word here is "possible". That is what hope is. It is the realization that the pain may not last forever, which presupposes we may be able to escape and become free. Without hope, we can not survive.

Although hope gives us a reason to not give up, it does not ensure that we will do what is absolutely necessary to get out of the pain. We must take action. We must move forward. We must let go and move on! When you are stuck in the middle of a situation sometimes the last thing you feel you can do is to take action. You may even feel taking any action is just not possible but you must. So how do you do something that you don't know how to do? You must have FAITH. Faith comes in many flavors and whatever flavor you like is perfect for you. Whether your faith is grounded in religion, in the universe, mother earth, higher power, in the process itself or in yourself. Faith is the antidote to fear. There is rarely a clear defined path. Faith is believing that everything will be alright and you are ok. It is what gives us certainty when there seems to be none. Faith is the key.

Lastly remember that everything in life serves you on some level. Whether to help you to grow an emotional muscle, change the path that you are on, to give you the experience and wisdom so that you can serve someone in the future. Regardless of the deeper meaning, understand that no problem is bigger than who you are at the level of your soul. And remember whatever you do, no matter how hard it may seem, don't ever ever give up.

I wish you love and passion, live free!!
