Who wants better health, greater wealth and more rewarding relationships? The real question is “who doesn’t?” Why do some seem to easily attain all they desire, while others are left with constant yearning? You can gain the answer to that question through better understanding of what is commonly known as the “Law of Attraction.”
To help us learn how we can use the Law of Attraction to improve our lives, particularly our health, I interviewed a woman with expertise and practice in the life-changing field. Michelle Renee Johnson is a Certified Empowerment Coach (CEC), owner of Expanding Joy Coaching and the founding member and organizer of the Living the Secret Meetup Group - Delaware Area. She also instructs Law of Attraction classes at regional and national locations.
Dr. R.: What is the Law of Attraction?
MRJ: The basic premise of Law of Attraction is that you attract into your life ideas, people and circumstances that match what you believe. It’s not just any one thought that creates your life, but a habitual pattern of thinking, which we refer to as a belief. Emotions are indicators of a belief system that we create from what either serves us (positive emotion) or does not serve us (negative emotion).
Dr. R.: Will you please explain how the Law of Attraction affects our health?
MJR: Let me use an example to better explain how the Law of Attraction works in relation to health. Meet Susie and Michael. After a few severe illnesses during childhood, Susie created a belief that she just has a weak immune system and is prone to illness. This belief was reinforced by her mother’s constant warnings telling her to be careful of dangerous germs. From that belief system, she regularly worried about getting sick, which dropped her immune system’s strength and continually attracted illnesses to reflect that belief.
In contrast, Michael, who also had a few severe illnesses during childhood, had parents who constantly focused on how quickly he healed from each illness, how each illness built antibodies that made his immune system stronger, and instructed him in ways he could strengthen his immunity to prevent illness in the future. Michael unconsciously took on the belief system practiced by his parents, which keeps him in a healthy mindset around flu season. This belief system allows Michael to be more in tune with his body. He rests more when his body needs it, consumes extra vitamins and takes other positive actions that support his robust health.
Susie and Michael both experienced illness in early childhood. Because of the their different belief systems, created in childhood while dealing with those illnesses, the Law of Attraction took effect and created very different levels of health in adulthood.
It is important to note that, along with our belief systems, our emotions have a significant impact on our physical health. Unexpressed negative emotions may show up in the physical body as some form of disease. When this occurs, until we change the belief associated with that emotion, poor health will continue. Even if we cure the initial physical issue, another will take its place. It is vital to allow yourself to feel all your emotions. Use them as indicators to find out what fear-based beliefs are not serving you. Replace them with positive beliefs that will attract optimum health. By changing the underlying belief, the physical manifestation of disease that it once produced will change permanently!
Dr. R: What was your first experience with the Law of Attraction?
MRJ: The interesting thing about the Law of Attraction is that it is affecting our lives All The Time whether we are aware of it or not. As I look back, I can see how the Law of Attraction created immense amounts of distress and joy in my life, depending on my dominant belief systems at that time. I first learned about the law of attraction and clearly saw how it was affecting my life when I was in my sophomore year in college.
Dr. R.: Can you share an experience where The Law of Attraction helped a person regain optimum health?
MRJ: My own story acts as a clear example, so let’s start there. I was under a lot of physical and emotional stress during my 2nd year of college. In addition to the basic stress of college life, I was completely obsessed with getting the approval of others. I had concluded long ago that what others thought of me determined my sense of well-being. Getting the “right” grades, looking the “right” way, acting the “right” way and doing things for approval took precedence over all else. I was constantly focused on what was wrong with my life and what I was missing. The Law of Attraction kept giving me more of what I perceived was wrong with me and led to more experiences that reinforced my negative beliefs. The harder I tried for approval, the more I ended up with less and less! This cycle eventually led to an eating disorder and mercury poisoning (although unknown at the time). The more I pushed away and ignored my feelings, the sicker I got. I was at my lowest point when I realized I couldn’t remember the last time I had felt happy.
I searched all the way back to childhood and grasped onto the feeling of joy I had then. I had been a pretty happy and healthy child. I became committed to finding my joy again- to be that healthy, joyous person I remembered being as a child. After I made that commitment, the resources I needed to support me were attracted to my life: the doctor who diagnosed the Mercury poisoning and helped me remove it, the therapist who helped me create new, more empowering beliefs, the boyfriend who worked at a health food store and knew all kinds of foods and supplements to support my healing. One after another, the support systems would fall into my lap through friends, ideas, and circumstances. Through my new belief system, the Law of Attraction supported me in regaining my health and well-being!
I started reading books about the Law of Attraction. I was astounded to see how I had been using The Law unconsciously to create a life of stress, drama, and illness based on the core belief that I was not good enough. Through Consciously changing my core belief to “I am good enough”, and “I can love myself unconditionally no matter what anyone else thinks”. I can focus on what is good in my life and commit myself to creating joy. The Law of Attraction supported me on my powerful journey back to health, wellness and joy.
Dr. R: Will you please share a few attraction techniques to help us create better mental and/or physical health in our lives?
MRJ: The most important tool in creating better mental and/or physical health is to become acutely aware of your negative emotions and the beliefs to which they are attached. Don’t push the emotions away. Instead, use those negative emotions to guide you to the underlying belief. Then replace it with a new belief that reflects what you want to experience. At that point, you are adding strength to your new belief system.
The next few tools are available to help you continue to strengthen and reinforce that new belief system:
Gratitude – Positive focus encourages positive growth, so take the time to notice, write about, and share the aspects of your body that are healthy now. The more you appreciate the good health you do have, the more the universe can support you in creating it in other areas of your body. Return to this gratitude throughout the day. Habitually get into an Attitude of Gratitude!
List of Desires – take the time to get clear about what you DO want to experience in your body. Write down how it looks and feels. Get excited about the optimum health you are committed to creating! Then throughout the day, when you notice yourself talking or thinking about what is wrong with your health, replace it with the new experience of health you are creating. Make your commitment to health your new habit of thought.
Find Proof (that it is possible) – Look into your past experience and the lives of others for proof that you can create this healthy way of being. There are a great many amazing stories about people healed from illness after changing their belief systems. Use these stories to remind you that if they can do it, so can you!
Manifestation Journal – Keep a journal to take note of every little (or big) improvement in your health and well-being on this journey Anything you effectively manifest through the Law of Attraction should be noted. This will remind you to celebrate your accomplishments and show you how far you have come. Reading your journal when you are having a difficult day can reinforce how powerful you actually are.
Dr. R: What made you decide to start a Living the Secret Meetup Group in Delaware?
MRJ: Living the Secret filled a need and was created as a support and social network for people who are excited about using the Law of Attraction. It gives us all a place to learn more about it and be around like-minded people who are committed to using it to improve their lives.
DR. R: What happens during a meeting?
MRJ: The “meetups” are about learning and supporting each other in a fun way. We have a variety of different options for people. Levels of interest range from fun social events to classes where we really get into the nitty-gritty of The Law and how it works. Members have full flexibility to pick and choose which “meetups” to attend based on what resonates with them.
Dr. R: How well received has the group been?
MRJ: We have had a great turnout so far with much positive feedback. We have over 150 members and are continually growing. Depending on the topic, we can have anywhere between 12 and 35 members at any “meetup.”
Dr. R: Can all people attend?
MRJ: All are welcome to Living the Secret “meetup” meetings. If you are feeling drawn to learn more, come check us out. I am also always available to answer anyone’s questions.
Dr. R.: Thank you Michelle!
